Alan M. Mantell is the president of Mantell Advisory LLC, a boutique consulting firm that provides strategic advisory services to business owners and high net worth families and individuals confronting complex business and financial decisions. Mr. Mantell’s multi-faceted five-decade career enables the firm to provide the sophisticated, inter-disciplinary guidance that his clients require. Mr. Mantell’s advisory service to Family Offices includesestablishing/heading the Family Office of the late Alvin Einbender (former Managing Partner/COO of Bear Stearns) and sitting on the Boards of the Stuart Family Fund and the Partridge Family Office. In addition to his service on the MUUS Investment Committee, he currently sits on the Investment Committee of the Idriss Family Office.
Earlier, Mr. Mantell practiced real estate, securities and bankruptcy law at prominent New York firms for almost seven years before leaving to establish the development division of a national real estate brokerage and investment firm. He went on to form several national businesses, including a real estate firm that developed more than 5,000 apartments in thirteen cities throughout the United States and also acquired office, dormitory, hotel and retail properties, an N.A.S.D firm active in venture capital and private equity, as well as Guardian Capital Group, Ltd., an early participant in the commercial mortgage-backed securitization (CMBS) business, and Guardian Mortgage Acceptance Corporation, a national multi-family lender. Arising out of his CMBS-related activities, Mr. Mantell founded and served as managing director and co-head of the Commercial Mortgage-backed Securities & Finance Group of Barclays de Zoete Wedd Securities, Inc. (the investment banking arm of Barclays PLC), and had select oversight of Barclays Bank’s U.S. Distress Debt Management Group. Mr. Mantell has applied his financial, leadership and management skills to corporate restructurings in assorted industries at the behest of various private equity firms, for example serving as Vice-Chairman/CEO of a public healthcare company and directing the actions of senior management at a regional passenger transportation company, among others. His not-for-profit service has included sitting on the boards of The Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Volunteers of America of Greater New York, Inc., and Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health, as well as the International Directors Counsel of the Guggenheim Museum. Mr. Mantell holds a BA in economics from the University of Chicago and a JD from Columbia Law School, where he was selected as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
